On January 9, 2004, CEO members and guests were treated to an outstanding presentation by one of our own members, Dr. Lee Hess. The topic and title of Lee's talk was " Being an Expert Witness for Christ". Lee is a professional expert witness in the field of real estate and the author of 13 books. He explained to the group how the basic principles being a good witness in the courtroom also apply to being a good witness for the gospel.

With 25 years and over 700 cases under his belt, Lee easily demonstrated his knowledge of the "expert witness" process. He used five basic principles to make his point:

1. Know what is expected of you -- Be sure of your salvation. Do you know that if you died tonight you would go to heaven? The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord (Rom. 6-23). If you confess with your mouth the Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved (Rom. 10:9).
2. Good communication skills help -- Realize that we are expected to share our faith. This is not dependent upon whether or not we have the gift of evangelism. (Great Commission Matt. 28:19) Always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you the reason for the hope that is in you, with gentleness and reverence (I Pet. 3:15).
3. Sharpen your Bible knowledge skills -- Know what you are talking about. Read the scriptures. Ask the Holy Spirit to illuminate them to you. Read through the Bible in a Year. Lee used Psalm 119 to demonstrate how the Bible works in the life of a believer.
4. Be Disciplined -- Surround yourself with accountability. Let your integrity be your witness as well as your words.
5. Pray -- Pray for people in your life. Pray for people who need you. Make time for the Lord's work. Be God's vessel. Ask God for a "hedge of protection" around your life and your witness.

Lee entertained the group with great humor, analogies, and war stories from his expert witness cases. He also, of course, shared his personal testimony and witnessed to God's miraculously healing him from cancer. As a great finale, Lee generously presented each attendee with a free copy of his book, Me and You With God in View.
