Our September 2003 event was the CEO and PWF annual combined breakfast, which as usual was a high attendance venue.
The speaker was Stephanie Edwards. Stephanie was the first female co-host of ABC's network morning show and has had a career of three decades in radio & TV. She is in high demand as evidenced by her schedule - she is presently speaking and listening to more than seventy groups yearly. She is now in her 21st year as co-host of the Tournament of Roses Parade, with Bob Eubanks.
Stephanie's theme was drawn from a question her former pastor and retired Senate Chaplain, Lloyd Ogilvie, used to hear from his father every day - "So what do you know for sure?"
From this came the challenge to stand up and be willing to accept righteous wounds in the midst of the evil going on around us with a balance of confidence and humility - and with a deep knowledge of the Bible as our absolute guide. She talked about how ineffective and poorly equipped many Christians are - how they unable to make even a small impact on the world.
Stephanie also quoted this anonymous thought:
ANYWAY
People are unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered.
Love them anyway
If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives.
Do good anyway
If you are successful, you win false friends and true enemies.
Succeed anyway
The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow.
Do good anyway
Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable.
Be honest and frank anyway
What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight.
Build anyway
People really need help but may attack you if you help them.
Help people anyway
Give the world the best you've got and it may never be enough.
Give the world the best you've got ANYWAY!
